Accommodations: House - 2 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 1-3)
Our Non-Smoking, charming, small house in the medieval quarter of the town of Nyons in northern Provence is suitable for one to three. It gives onto a beautiful garden with a splashing pool and views over the tile rooftops of this historic town. There is one main bedroom with an adjacent large bathroom (shower only, no tub) on the garden level floor. On the floor below are an equipped kitchen and an adjacent room that can serve as a study, TV room, or bedroom. On the street level below is another bathroom. Nyons is known as the olive capital of France because of the local production of delicious black olives and olive oil. Nyons has its own fascinating market every Thursday morning and other markets are in nearby towns other days of the week. A three minute walk to the center of town gives access to all sorts of stores, cafes, restaurants and even a small but complete supermarket. One can live here without getting into a car but if you want to tour around the region it is advisable to have one. (In spite of anything the car rental agencies may tell you, it is unlikely that you will get a car with automatic shift except in Paris or Nice.) Access to Nyons is by train to Montelimar or Avignon + bus to Nyons or we can arrange for private car service to and from the train station. Rental cars are available in Avignon, Nice, Marseille, and Montelimar. There is a fast rail connection from Charles DeGaulle airport direct to Avignon, or if you are coming from London you can get the train from Waterloo station to Avignon. Ryan Air has cheap flights to Nimesfrom London, one and a half hours away by car. Other airlines fly to Marseille or Lyon, both about two and a half hours away by car. We are 15 minutes by car from historic Vaison la Romaine and an hour from Avignon. The Rhone Valley wine areas of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Cairanne, and Rasteau are within a half-hour drive; Chateau-Neuf du Pape is just a little farther. Northern Provence has many interesting and beautiful towns that are within easy visiting distance. The Roman Bridge and Aqueduct Le Pont du Gard is about one and a half hours away by car and is very near the lovely, historic town of Uzes. Hiking or simply walking in the hills and olive groves, bicycling, and tennis are all within a few minutes walk of the house. |
